And North Year in Review: 2016
Happy New Year, Everyone! We wanted to take this moment to thank you for reading our features on some of our favorite destinations north of the city. Every day, it feels like we are finding another fantastic restaurant, shop, farm, outdoor adventure, or place to stay. It thrills us to learn what our site has led you to discover and, of course, uncover on your own. This year has been hard-hitting, to say the least, but having this community of people — who share not only a passion for upstate, but who look to each other for recommendations, encouragement, and inspiration — is what drives us forward. We cannot wait to share all of the new stories and exciting happenings we have planned for 2017. In the meantime, here is a look back at all of our features from 2016. Let us know what your favorites were in the comments below, we’d love to know!

We dined at nose-to-tail eatery Fish & Game, enjoyed Southeast-Asian inspired food at BackBar, savored cider-friendly dishes at Wassail, followed The Brothers Buoy on their Hudson Valley Brunch Adventure, ate the best home-style Japanese food at Gomen Kudasai, made a Vietnamese pit stop at Bá & Mẹ, sampled beer at Suarez Family Brewery, celebrated the opening of Wayside Cider Tap Room, and learned how to make three cozy winter recipes in time for the holidays.

We shared a few thoughtful gift ideas in our Valentine’s Day Gift Guide, touched the hand dyed silks of Silk & Willow, browsed the gorgeous wares at Hawkins New York, admired the found objects at The Stonehouse, crossed holiday gifts off our list at BURKELMAN, celebrated Shop Small Saturday with our Guide to Shopping Local in Upstate New York, and learned of some talented Newburgh-Beacon makers through our Holiday Giveaway.

We held a spring reception to welcome Luddite to Germantown, celebrated community with a backyard lamb feast in Bovina, kissed summer goodbye with a night at the Greenville Drive-In, and hosted an intimate harvest dinner with Brushland Eating House on 80 acres of private land.

We packed our bags for Nest Inn, sang around the piano at The DeWitt Oak Hill, checked in at Rivertown Lodge, explored Hudson while staying at Haviland House, cozied up in Bill and Hawley’s Airbnb cottage, wandered the property of Windrift Hall, camped like never before at Le Petite Ten Mile River Camp, felt the magic of Audrey’s Farmhouse, lounged in the sunroom at Shipley Corner, enjoyed s’mores and bonfires at The Arnold House, played our records loud at MILK BARN, sipped the best cocktails at Wm. Farmer and Sons, and rounded up our favorite places to stay in Winter, Summer, and Fall.
